“Josh, can you help me sell a 1,000,000 pounds of cheese?”
I’ll spare you the cheesy details, but the origin story of The Big Cheese begins with my desire to help a friend in the cheese aging business (yes, that is a real business). He had 1,000,000 lbs. of cheese that was a decade old just sitting there! It only took one bite, and I knew I had a winner.
You may be asking “Josh, why did he call you?”
Well, I grew up in the cheese business in Plymouth, WI (the Cheese Capital of the World) so I know a little bit about cheddar. My grandfather, Leonard Gentine – the original Big Cheese in my life – started Sargento Foods, a very BIG cheese company. In fact, I grew up playing hide-and-go-seek among the slicing and dicing equipment in the factory. My grandfather was an amazing man, and The Big Cheese is named in his honor.
After spending the last two years selling online and developing some seriously bold products, we are now bringing the Big Cheese to stores around the country. Whether it’s our Wicked White, our Glorious Golden, or our mind-blowing popcorn, we aim to deliver legen-dairy flavors with a quirky sense of humor.
